Purim Baking with Chef Laura Frankel

KosherEye's fabulous Foodie "Friend", Chef Laura Frankel, is sharing her wonderful recipes for homemade Hamantaschen with our readers. This year Chef Laura has decided to use a Persian theme for Purim – what fun!

From Chef Laura's website, Laura's Kosher Kitchen:
"Every year I wait until the last minute to even think about Purim and making hamantaschen and before I know it the holiday sneaks up on me and I end up buying hamantaschen at the store or bakery... This year I am armed and purimhamantashen3prepared to bake my own. I have a recipe for each week and if I stick to the plan I will have enough of the gorgeous goodies to serve my family and friends in my home and even enough to put in cute little bags for mishloach manot or gifts to friends."

To read the entire article and to follow her hamantaschen baking quest (complete with recipes), please visit her at Laura's Kosher Kitchen.

Enjoy her recipes for Hamantaschen with Rosewater and Almond Filling and Hamantaschen with Chocolate and Hazelnut Spread.

Toffee Turtles™

We wish that we could eat these toffee, caramel, chewy, crunchy, luscious, rich milk chocolate coated confections as slowly as a turtle. But, instead they are so delicious, that we gobbled them right down. Each layer in this chocolate candy offers another taste sensation. What a bite.

The product has just been certified Kosher dairy (Kehilla kosher) and is available at select Whole Foods Markets in California. It will be going national soon. Visit ToffeeTurtles.com.

Rösle- the Apple CORER of our eye

Although it is late into apple season, for us apple pie season never ends. So, we have been coring apples to store in our freezer! The fruit corer we love is our new discovery, the Rösle.

We have been testing this kitchen helper since December. It is easy to hold, easy to use, and can core an apple or pear with one twist. It is basically a long, sharp 18/10 stainless steel cylinder with a sharp serrated front ring. This narrow dishwasher safe tool easily cores fruit, and because of its shape is easily stored. This is a perfect tool to buy now, since apples and pears are in so many kosher for Passover baking recipes.   roslefruitcorer

And,we are going to give it a try on pineapple too.  Now, how we wish that we could find a peach stoner – since the southern peach season will soon be approaching! Anyone have a peachy suggestion?

Heering Minis – JUST in time for Purim Giving

We’ve always heard that good things come in small packages! We raise our glass to one of our favorite spirits, Heering! Just in time for Purim gift giving, this liqueur, born in Denmark in 1818,  is now  available in mini 1.5–ounce bottles –  perfect for mishloach manot baskets. Both the new Coffee Heering and legendary Cherry Heering are certified kosher by the OU. Consider including one of our Heering recipes featured in Heering – The Royal Drink, in your Purim Basket.

And, for Purim giving themes, how about :

Have a Cherry Purim! (Include mini Cherry Heering, cherry candies, dried cherries in the basket)

Wishing you a Latte fun on Purim! (Include mini Coffee Heering, a small gift pack of coffee, coffee creamer, and a frother too –if in the budget!

Calling our readers to send us clever Purim Mishloach Manot themes. We will publish them on Koshereye.com.
